A 4-year-old California boy survived being tossed from an SUV during a crash when he landed on a small patch of plants just a few feet away from traffic, authorities said.

Elisa Miranda and her boyfriend were driving on Interstate 5 near Anaheim at around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday when the boyfriend swerved to avoid some loose tire tread, lost control and hit a concrete wall, California Highway Patrol said.

A back window of the SUV shattered, and the boy, Angel, went flying out, authorities said.

"I was screaming 'Angel, Angel where's my son?'" Miranda told local KTLA about the moments after the wreck.

Elisa Miranda and the boy's father were traveling on I-5 near Anaheim when the crash occurred. Cops said the boy was thrown some 20 feet.
