After four years and two successful albums, Mac Miller has parted ways with his label Rostrum Records. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native issued a statement exclusively to MTV News announcing the split.
The statement reads:
“Rostrum is my family, That is forever. No matter what, we will always work together. We moved mountains and I can only see them continuing that tradition. I am grateful for everything I learned and am always here for whatever.”
Rostrum Records Founder and President Benjy Grinberg also spoke highly of Miller and wished him the best on his future ventures.
“Mac is an incredible artist and has a bright career ahead of him,” he said. “We are proud of the historic run that we had together and we will continue to support him in any way that is needed. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”
Miller was signed to Rostrum Records in 2010 during the release of his breakout mixtape, ‘K.I.D.S. (Kickin’ Incredibly Dope S—).’ A year later he dropped his debut album, ‘Blue Slide Park,’ which featured the fan-favorite tune, ‘Donald Trump,’ named after the billionaire tycoon. In 2013, he dropped his second full-length effort, ‘Watching Movies with the Sound Off,’ which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Now that Miller is a free agent, he can now focus on his own independent label, REMember Music. In an interview with MTV News, the 21-year-old rap wunderkind said he was working on four separate projects including his third studio effort.
We wish Mac Miller the best of luck on his future endeavors.
